About mountainmullins

Sasha doll collector primarily plus other interesting dolls. I inheirited my love of dolls from my dear Mother and also her collection. My first Sasha doll was Gwennie, a redheaded studio doll. Since Gwennie, I have collected other Sasha dolls and love their individual personalities created by their eye painting, hair color and styling, and dressing them. It is such fun to share with other collectors!

Meandering Memory Lane with My Abby

Image

Christmas 1955
Most of you know that I love dolls and especially cloth dolls and very especially cloth Sasha dolls. 🙂

My first doll was given to me as a baby and it was a Raggedy Ann doll.  I am fortunate to have this photo, albeit faded and fuzzy, of my family on Christmas morning in 1955 with my beloved Grandparents, Harold and Adeline, and my loving parents, Mary and Bob and of course, Raggedy Ann is front and center. 🙂

image
Now, 60 years later, there is no surprise to see the lovely Abby gracing my bedroom chair and looking so young and fresh and lovely. ❤

image
Hello there Abby! 🙂 I redressed Abby in a very pretty dress and pinafore made by Thu Cuc Faes. Abby’s brown leather shoes were made by Jean Jensen. 🙂

image
I was feeling very sentimental while taking this photographs and my mind was reaching back in time to many childhood memories and those days that I lived happily with wonderful, loving people. While thinking of these days long ago, I remembered this very special scarab pin that was given to me from my Granny and my Mom when I was thirteen. I wore and wore and wore this pin, for most of my school years, on all of my round collared blouses. 🙂

I keep the pin in my jewelry box and it is a treasure.  It seemed the perfect addition to Abby’s outfit and taking in the beauty of it as I pinned it to her round collar, a tear was brought to my eye….a happy and yet a poignant moment. ❤

image
Abby, I think you are so very lovely with your yarn plaits and beautifully painted face. What a joy you bring to me and all of us here at Sasha Shangri-La. ❤

image
This photo and the next were taken with a flash and so appear much brighter than the other photos. I think it is nice to see Abby up close. 🙂

Abby, my well-loved special girl. ❤

A New Life for a Wonderful Waif

Image

image
I recently adopted a dear waif that Ellen Church offered on behalf of a friend. This now pretty girl was purchased new years ago for the daughters of Ellen’s friend.  How wonderful! (The next four photos were taken by Ellen ).

This waif was pulled from a toy box and was in a very played-with condition.  No one wanted her any more. 😦

image
Well, it was this girl’s lucky day when Ellen Church came to visit! Ellen took her home, washed and conditioned her hair and sent her to Pat Pellerito for tear repairs and restringing.  The quality of life is greatly improving for this early Gotz girl. 🙂

image

So, this sweet girl is now clean and can stand. Her hair is very good and not dried out though it is thinning on top and has some cutting too.  Ellen combed it to the side and placed a perfect, heart shaped clip in her hair.  Ellen’s Sasha dolls are always dressed so beautifully and perfectly presented and this girl is no exception. ❤

image
Isn’t she beautiful?  I named her Frieda. Thank you Ellen! ❤

image
When Frieda arrived here at Sasha Shangri-La, she was very shy. She is hiding behind the lovely card that Ellen put in with Frieda’s things. ❤

image
Peek-a-Boo Frieda, I see you! 🙂

image
Frieda turned her card over and said “Look, here is a photo of me!   Yes, that is you my dear one. 🙂

image
Ellen dressed her beautifully in a Ruthsdolls dress, pinafore, and socks that are perfect for Frieda and her beautiful coloring. She is wearing her original brown shoes. 🙂

image
Frieda brought with her the brown cord dress and a green dress too. (Ellen’s photo)

image
Underneath, Frieda wears the most lovely hand crocheted underwear. (Ellen’s photo)

A close up photo of the beautiful Ruthsdolls outfit. ❤

image
As a welcoming gift, I gave Frieda a Sashapotamus surprise!

image
She is so excited and looks inside her bag. 🙂

image
“What is it Mommy?”  Look inside the tissue paper my dear Frieda. ❤

image
“Oh my Mommy! New shoes and they match my dress!” “Oh thank you Mommy!”  You are very welcome my dear one. ❤

image
Frieda put her new shoes on and they are just the right size.  “Oh Mommy, I love them! ❤

image
“Mommy, I feel so pretty!”  You are very pretty my sweet Frieda. ❤

image
So dear Frieda has been lovingly restored and beautifully redressed to begin her new life. 🙂

Drew Welcomes New Brunette Boys to Sasha Shangri-La

Image

image
Drew is a handsome 1968 Trendon boy with NP style eyes. We have been trying to find his puppy but he must be hiding. So Drew said this would be a good time to give the newly arrived boys a puppy to love and play with on the farm. 🙂

image
Drew’s wonderful sweater was knitted by Diane Duke who sells on Etsy. 🙂

image
Drew is a very thoughtful boy! 🙂

image
His distressed leather boots were made by Lisa in the UK. 🙂

image
Well, here is Brodie dressed in a Kaffe Fassett designed sweater with matching hat and hand knitted by Diane Duke. I love Diane’s knitted treasures!  Drew is so happy to greet Brodie. He told me earlier that he thought for a long time that I was only adopting girls. 🙂

image
Drew brings a sweet puppy for Brodie to love.  Brodie’s leather boots were made by Jean Jensen. 🙂

image
“Thank you Drew, I will take good care of him.” said Brodie. 🙂

Drew said to Nico, “Let me officially welcome you to Sasha Shangri-La and give you back your lion to love.” ❤

Another Brunette Boy Comes to Stay……Poor Dear

Image

image
A couple of weeks ago, I was fortunate to find the dear little waif 1967 NP brunette boy on ebay. I was drawn to his amazing eyes and the ding on his sweet nose, and other dings too, did nothing to decrease my admiration for him so I took the plunge and bought him!  I have always had a soft spot in my heart for waifs and this boy went straight to my heart full speed ahead!  He arrived yesterday and I love him, dings and all. ❤

image
This is his ebay photo and he is wearing a later Sasha outfit that I have always thought of as a girl’s outfit though it is probably not neccesarily so. The striped swimsuit is in the bag. 🙂

image
Here he is waving hello right out of the box.  What a nice and happy lad. 🙂

image
Hello there dear one! ❤

image
First things first….this dear little waif boy desperately needed a bath. He was quite grubby plus he was a bit stinky….in fact, he was a lot stinky!  Not a cigarette smoke smell but just a stored for a very long time kind of smell. 😦

image
Of course, I said nothing to him about his cleanliness or lack there of since we are getting to know one another and not wanting to offend him.  After all, it is not his fault that was discarded and hidden away for a long time. 😦

image
He became excited and I think removing his clothes was very liberating and he was feeling very spry!  So, I explained to him that he was going to take a bath. 🙂

image
This dear, well worn waif then asked me, “Mummy, what is a bath?” I at once realized that he had not been bathed before today, not ever! So off to the bathroom we went to boldly accept this new adventure. 🙂

image
So we made it a fun time with not too hot water and lots of bubbles. And he carefully waded in and took it slowly.  I could tell this experience was new to him but he seemed to like it. 🙂

image
After his tubby time and a good scrub, we suds-up his wonderful jet black hair. ❤

image
Oh my, what a sweet boy.  Be still my heart! ❤

image
Time for a good rinsing. 🙂

image
All done now and not a strand of hair was lost in the process. Plus, he likes taking a bath too! 😉

image
So now he is quietly resting and is much, much cleaner plus his hair and body smell so nice. I think he is ready for a nap and he did say “Mummy, I am so sleepy.” He is probably dealing with some jet lag too coming over the pond in a padded box for a couple of weeks. I gave him a little kiss and said “Sleep my dear one, you are much loved here.” He then hugged me and whispered his name to me….”I am Bronson”. I smiled and said ” I love you my dear Bronson.”

image
Thank you for visiting with us here at Sasha Shangri-La.  I hope you liked this post and this is a Waterlogue image of Bronson for you to enjoy.  Bronson and I both are sending you warm hugs and happy wishes for the weekend and week to come. 🙂 xxx

Wonderful Mini Trip to Cincinnati, Ohio

Image

Cincinnati with Heidi and Laura
On Saturday, September 19th, I traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio to meet Laura Ward on our planned mini trip to attend the Triple Crown Doll Show scheduled to be held at the Radisson hotel and to begin at 10:00 am on Sunday, September 20th. We were so happy that Heidi Wheeler met us for dinner Saturday night and this photo was taken by Laura from the 18th floor of our hotel where the 360 Restaurant tops the hotel building. I am on the left and Heidi is on the right side of the photo. The bright outside light dimmed our faces a bit. 🙂

The restaurant actually rotates slowly while you eat and so your panoramic view is a full 360 degrees. The river in the background is the Ohio River which eventually flows into the Mississippi River. The tall buildings in the background are in downtown Cincinnati and our hotel is located in Covington, Kentucky. The Ohio River separates the states of Ohio and Kentucky in this area.

It was wonderful to see Heidi and catch up on life events and talk about Sasha dolls too. The food was scrumptious too! 🙂

68 boy

I made two purchases at the doll show on Sunday. The first purchase was made early on and almost immediately upon arriving at the doll show. I spied this amazing 1968 Trendon Brunette boy and snatched him up quickly. He is in minty condition and looks like his clothes have not ever been removed and he retains his plain back, gold wrist tag. His white leather sandals are both for left feet!  But I just bet his is an excellent dancer in spite of the mismatched sandals! 😉  His hair is nice and stable too. But, the most amazing thing about this boy is that his beautiful, hand painted brown eyes have radiating irises! I have never seen this in person and only in a single photograph prior to finding this dear boy. 🙂

68 boy radiating iris
Laura took this close up photo of him using her cell phone camera. It does show the painting of his eyes very well. 🙂

68 boy by bedside
Here he is standing on my bedside table and Gertie and Lizzie are standing behind him. He is shorter than they are and really a petite boy. I have yet to name him but will soon. ❤

doucet pram
My second purchase was this dear little Doucet pram which is in very good condition. The canopy and cover are navy blue and not black as the photo may suggest. I purchased the pram from a dear man at the doll show and he was very kind and witty too. I really enjoyed talking with him and so many other nice people at the show. Anne Votaw was also there and it was so nice to see her. 🙂

I also won two dolls that were helpers or raffled dolls.  Very exciting to win a doll, isn’t it?  One doll was a Madame Alexander “Puddin” doll and the other an Ashton Drake doll with a teddy bear. 🙂

This post is very short and, since I am very tardy posting on my blog, I thought it best to just focus on the doll show finds and the wonderful dinner with Laura and Heidi. I wish I had a photo of Laura but missed that opportunity. I will do better next time, watch out Laura! 🙂

Thank you for visiting the blog and I hope you enjoyed this abbreviated post. I will post again soon and have photos of a few dolls that I adopted from Laura during our mini trip. Have a wonderful week everyone! 🙂 xxx
