Rays of Sunshine on the Nativity

image
I really love our large, hammered metal nativity scene of Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus that has white lights in a clear rope that runs around the edges of each figure.  It looks beautiful in the day or the night. ❤

I have always loved nativity scenes, both large and small, and was lucky to catch a very narrow window of a few rays of sunshine.  So, I was able to take a few photos outdoors just before my dear husband took down the nativity to store it away until next Christmas.

It was very cold that day so I bundled up baby Avania and helped Joy and Quinn to find warm duffle coats to wear and knitted boggins too. 🙂

Joy wanted to bring a wagon instead of a stroller for Avania to sit and enjoy the sun. Joy was sure to add Avania’s bunny but also found a red wagon and doll for Avania to play with and enjoy the outdoors.  Joy’s duffle coat was made by Ruth’s Dolls and her boggin was knitted by Maryanne Getchell on Etsy.  It matches her sweater which you can’t see because her warm duffle coat is covering it very well. 🙂

Avania likes to feel the sun on her face. 🙂

Joy is also enjoying the sunshine. Joy is a 1966 early English production girl.  Her red hair is super thick and long and braids well. I love her blue eyes!

Quinn is a most favorite boy here at Sasha Shangri-La and is a Shorts boy that was found on Shelly’s site and was previously owned by Ronnie (Ronnie, Quinn sends his love to you!).  I do not know who knitted his boggin but it was well done.  His slacks were made by Gotz and his blue leather boots were made by Jean Jensen. 🙂

Another group photo of this happy trio enjoying a bit of sunshine. 🙂

A last photo of our nativity scene with the old barn in the background and rolled hay bales in the very far distance, past the barn.  Tomorrow, I return to work and I have so enjoyed my time off during the holidays.

All of us here at Sasha Shangri-La want to thank you for visiting.  We are sending you warm hugs to help you endure these cold days and also sending our heart-felt wishes for a wonderful week to come! 🙂 xxx

  1. What a lovely Nativity you have must look extra special when the lights are shinning in the dark of night!
Loved the children getting dressed warm and taking the baby in the wagon down to see the Nativity before it’s put away until next year.
Hope the weather treats you kindly this winter , we are all back to work come Monday, these days off go so fast ! :)xx

    • Hi Dee! Thank you for the lovely comments. Yes, the days off do go by so fast when we are on a holiday. I hope your weather treats you kindly too! Today we are getting down pours of rain between short breaks of just plain dreary and yucky. I think tomorrow promises some sunshine but it will be very cold. I don’t mind the cold though if you can see some sunshine! 🙂 xxx

    • Hi Ronnie and thank you! I think Quinn looks very handsome and he is really a lot of fun to dress! We are almost all put away now, just a few more boxes for the attic and it will all be gone but the happy memory! 🙂 xxx

  2. Such a lovely nativity scene Ginger and your little family of Sashas looked so warm and cosy in their coats and hats. I took all my decorations down today too, the house looks bare without them. xxx

    • Thank you Janet! I love dressing them in coats and boggins for winter weather. Our house feels empty with the decorations removed and l miss the lights too. It was a very nice holiday! 🙂 xxx

  3. Lovely photos Ginger, the kids look really warm and toasty in their duffle coats….I am assuming a ‘boggin’ is a hat? If so, I’ve never heard that expression before! 🙂 A boggin for his noggin’!!!!!
Your large Nativity is pretty….if you love nativity scenes Ginger, you would love it here, they are EVERYWHERE, ever shop has a scene in their window, even the airport used to have a great big one manned by volunteers but it hasn’t been up for a few years as there has been a lot of work going on at the airport, so maybe they didn’t want to risk anything happening to it. It was sooooo detailed though!
Sending you lots of love and big hugs
    Sharon xxx

    • Hi Sharon! Yes, a boggin is a hat!! :). I love “a boggin for the noggin” — you made me smile!! 🙂 I would love to see the nativities where you live. Plus you could shop too, how much fun that would be! Maybe you could take photos when your airport nativity is returned. It sound just beautiful. ❤ xxx

  4. I’m still clinging on to my decorations until the very last minute but know that they have to be taken down by midnight tonight…… but Steve has just told me that if they aren’t then they have to be kept up until Easter! Rather tempting!!!1
I hadn’t heard of that one before as I just thought that by not taking them down on the twelth night you would be risking having bad luck during the next year.
Will be so sorry to see them go as I just love looking at them and they make the house look so very cheerful and festive with their sparkle and tiny lights.

Fab outdoor Crib. Would have loved to have seen a photo of it outlined in lights in the dark. Maybe next year then?.
Three superbly and warmly dressed for the rural outdoors dolls. Reminds me of my childhood when we spent such a large part of our lives playing outside and exploring nature.
    .

    • Hi Kendal! I had not heard about keeping the decorations up to Easter but I like it! Much nicer than the bad luck outcome! Sparkly lights are a beautiful addition to our homes!

So glad you enjoyed the children too. We as children played outdoors every day and especially in the cold and snowy weather. We would only go home to eat or if we heard someone yelling for us. We spent very little time indoors and I am certain the grown ups were glad for that! 🙂 xxx
