Gertie and Lizzy in 1998 Cincinnati Festival Outfits

Image

image
Well, it is a very cool and rainy day today and I am glad I took these photos on Sunday though it was overcast., it was dry.Β This is Gertie, a repaint/restoration of a well worn PintucksΒ by Janet Myhill-Dabbs and she is wearing a beautiful festival outfit from 1998 and held in Cincinnati, Ohio. πŸ™‚

image
Gertie is holding her baby that was a gift from her sister Edith. Gertie is wearing hand knitted socks and red leather shoes by Ruthsdolls. πŸ™‚

How nice to see the festival tag in place. ❀

image
This is Lizzy, Gertie’s sister and she is wearing a beautiful 1998 Cincinnati Festival outfit too. I was fortunate to find both of these outfits on Susanna Lewis’ website. πŸ™‚

image
Lizzy is a repaint/restoration by Janet Myhill-Dabbs and was previously a Prince Gregor in very, very poor condition. Now there is new life for this waif. πŸ™‚

image
I love these fabrics and the extra attention to detail on the pinafore and the dress. ❀

image
Lovely pantaloons and socks and shoes are by Ruthsdolls. πŸ™‚

These dear little walnut head babies came with their festival outfits and also with two beautiful little quilts lovingly tied with a ribbon.  There was also wonderful reading materials included with these festival items. ❀

Bronson Outdoors plus a Dear and Different Doll’s Tale

Image

image
This past week has been gorgeous and so I managed to get a few photos of Bronson outdoors with the ferns. πŸ™‚

image
Bronson is wearing a wonderful knitted creation using a mini Kaffe pattern. It is perfect for these cooler days. ❀

image
A close up photo. πŸ™‚

image
Bronson is very happy outdoors and he did take a tumble but all is well…Bronson said “Mom, don’t sweat the small stuff!” πŸ˜‰

A couple of photos of mushrooms close by. πŸ™‚

Lovely. πŸ™‚

Now, a story of a different doll’s journey to Sasha Shangri-La. πŸ™‚

imageI
I was on ebay and looking under the category, “Gotz dolls” when I came upon this very sweet Sylvia Natterer doll. She had only what you see…no socks, no shoes, no pants, no box, no tag and was a bit rough, a waif, no doubt! She is signed and numbered on her tummy but I am not very familiar with these dolls. Β Well, my heart engaged with this dear one. ❀

image
Another ebay photo. Β She is 19 inches tall and wears a human hair wig. Β I thought she looked lonely and sad. Β So, no longer being able to resist this sweet face, I bought her! πŸ™‚

image
The seller took ages to send her but she finally arrived and to my great sadness, I lifted her from the box and immediately saw that her right eye was damaged. 😦

I thought it was a blob of paint or something on top of her eye but the magnifying glass showed that the eye paint was gone. 😦

image
I took photos of her and this photo shows her with the bad eye lying next to the Ipad which shows the ebay photo of an undamaged eye. 😦

image
A close up of the poor dear’s eye. The seller had bent her in half, put her in a too-small box and wrapped her in heavy brown craft paper. No tissue paper, no bubble wrap, no peanuts, well you get the picture! Obviously, the seller is not a doll lover. My husband Rick inspected the craft paper and found the spot where the paper was folded creating a sharp edge that rubbed away at her eye during the shipping time. Β I was very upset and wondered what to do. Ultimately, I just could not send her back and the seller agreed to offset the price to allow me to have her repaired. Afterwards, Rick encouraged me to say that he thought we could repair her eye. Well, an interesting idea so I contacted Janet Myhill-Dabbs and shared the story and she encouraged me plus told me what to buy in terms of paints and brushes. I decided to give it a try! πŸ™‚

image
So, this past Monday, Columbus Day and a holiday, I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased these paints and brushes which were as close as I could find to what Janet recommended. πŸ™‚

image
Using a paper plate as protection from spills, I removed the black tray from the box and shook the paints I planned to use and poured out samples in the tray. The box came with cheaper white handled brushes that I used to stir and blend the paints. I used a sable brush, red handle, to apply the paint. πŸ™‚

image
Here she is and I had already redressed her in the 2013 Cincinnati Sasha Festival studio dress. She looks ready to regain her eyesight don’t you think?

image
Here she is again up close. Time to get to work! πŸ™‚

image
Drum roll please…………TaDa!!! Β Her eye is re-painted! Β My first time ever attempt at re-painting!!! Β What do you think??? πŸ™‚

image
I was so surprised but mostly really happy that she is repaired. I think she is smiling now and happy too! πŸ™‚

image
Here she is before the re-painting and wearing the festival outfit with hand knitted socks and leather boots. A nice fit though most Sasha clothes and shoes will not fit her since she is a bit larger and taller. She is like an older sister to the resident Sashas. ❀

image
Now, here she is today looking so happy! Β I added a wool shawl to keep her warm. Her basket holds her Hermann bear and the local piglets just love her. I have named her “Mamie” after my favorite great Aunt Mary and all of the children used to lovingly call her Mamie. ❀

Mamie and I both thank you for visiting with us today and reading her tale of woe but, fortunately, with a very happy ending. πŸ™‚

image
A waterlogue image of dear sweet Mamie. Β We are sending you happy hugs and happy wishes for the week to come. πŸ™‚ xxx

Sweater Weather is Better

Image

image
A lovely cool day and it is a perfect time to wear our sweaters. Β Annie, Finn, and Rae decided to dress in Sashapotamus t-shirts and pants and I asked them to wear a sweater to keep them warm. πŸ™‚

image
All three are wearing Ruthsdolls leather boots. Look! Β  Finn’s puppy Fetch is outdoors to have fun too! πŸ™‚

image
Finn is a 1967 Trendon NP with platinum hair. His red sweater was knitted by Diane Duke. πŸ™‚

image
Finn is much loved here at Sasha Shangri-La. ❀

image
Annie is an early Gotz girl made in 1965. She has lovely gold eyes and no mold lines on her torso. Her hair is very nice and we decided to give her a ponytail today. πŸ™‚

image
Annie up close. πŸ™‚

image
Another close up photo of sweet Annie. ❀

image
Rae selected a purple outfit for today. Rae is an early Gotz girl, made in 1965, with lovely golden eyes and there are no mold lines on her body. πŸ™‚

image
I decided to braid Rae’s hair. Her hair is so lovely. It is very long and silky. Β I love to braid hair! πŸ™‚

image
A close up of dear Rae. ❀

image
Annie and Rae arrived at Sasha Shangri-La together and this helped them to feel close to each other. They are almost twin sisters though not identical. ❀

image
Next, we went to the front porch to look at the Fall seasonal decorations. Annie really likes the “BOO”” wreath on the front door. πŸ™‚

image
Finn decided to say hello to Mr. Pumpkinhead who was sitting by a Fall cornucopia. πŸ™‚

image
Rae also said hello to Mr. Pumpkinhead. He is a happy fellow! πŸ˜‰

image
Annie gave her kind regards to the gourdy guy and he really liked spending time with the happy trio! πŸ™‚

image
The scarecrow wreath and grapevine pumpkin attracted Finn and the girls because they have fairy lights. Though they shine best at night, you can see the lights during the day. They notice a lady sitting next to the table and they wonder who she is!

image
Oh my, it is Mrs. Pumpkinhead looking very happy holding her festive Fall companions. πŸ™‚

image
A happy day for these three dear children. πŸ™‚

A few waterlogue photos for you to enjoy. Dear Rae and I thank you for visiting with us! πŸ™‚

Annie, Finn, and Rae all wish you a happy week to come and that you will enjoy the Fall days. πŸ™‚

Meandering Memory Lane with My Abby

Image

Christmas 1955
Most of you know that I love dolls and especially cloth dolls and very especially cloth Sasha dolls. πŸ™‚

My first doll was given to me as aΒ baby and it was a Raggedy Ann doll.Β Β I am fortunate to haveΒ this photo, albeitΒ faded and fuzzy,Β of my familyΒ on Christmas morning in 1955Β with my beloved Grandparents, Harold andΒ Adeline, and my loving parents, Mary and Bob and of course, Raggedy Ann is front and center. πŸ™‚

image
Now, 60 years later, there is no surprise to see the lovely Abby gracing my bedroom chair and looking so young and fresh and lovely. ❀

image
Hello there Abby! πŸ™‚ I redressed Abby in a very pretty dress and pinafore made by Thu Cuc Faes. Abby’s brown leather shoes were made by Jean Jensen. πŸ™‚

image
I was feeling very sentimental while taking this photographs and my mind was reaching back in time to many childhood memories and those days that I lived happily with wonderful, loving people. While thinking of these days long ago, I remembered this very special scarab pin that was given to me from my Granny and my Mom when I was thirteen.Β I wore and wore and wore this pin, forΒ most of my school years,Β on all of my round collared blouses. πŸ™‚

I keep the pin in my jewelry box and it is a treasure. Β It seemed the perfect addition to Abby’s outfit andΒ taking in the beauty ofΒ it as I pinned itΒ to her round collar,Β a tear was broughtΒ to my eye….a happy and yet aΒ poignant moment. ❀

image
Abby, I think you are so very lovely with your yarn plaits and beautifully painted face. What a joy you bring to me and all of us here at Sasha Shangri-La. ❀

image
This photo and the next were taken with a flash and so appear much brighter than the other photos. I think it is nice to see Abby up close. πŸ™‚

image
Abby, my well-loved special girl. ❀

A last photo ofΒ sweet Abby. Abby and I are sending you hugs and happy wishes for the rest of the week to come. πŸ™‚ xxx

A New Life for a Wonderful Waif

Image

image
I recently adopted a dear waif that Ellen Church offered on behalf of a friend. This now pretty girl was purchased new years ago for the daughters of Ellen’s friend. Β How wonderful! (The next four photos were taken by Ellen ).

This waif was pulled from a toy box and was in a very played-with condition.  No one wanted her any more. 😦

image
Well, it was this girl’s lucky day when Ellen Church came to visit! Ellen took her home, washed and conditioned her hair and sent her to Pat Pellerito for tear repairs and restringing. Β The quality of life is greatly improving for this early Gotz girl. πŸ™‚

image

So, this sweet girl is now clean and can stand. Her hair is very good and not dried out though it is thinning on top and has some cutting too. Β Ellen combed it to the side and placed a perfect, heart shaped clip in her hair. Β Ellen’s Sasha dolls are always dressed so beautifully and perfectly presented and this girl is no exception. ❀

image
Isn’t she beautiful? Β I named her Frieda. Thank you Ellen! ❀

image
When Frieda arrived here at Sasha Shangri-La, she was very shy. She is hiding behind the lovely card that Ellen put in with Frieda’s things. ❀

image
Peek-a-Boo Frieda, I see you! πŸ™‚

image
Frieda turned her card over and said “Look, here is a photo of me! Β  Yes, that is you my dear one. πŸ™‚

image
Ellen dressed her beautifully in a Ruthsdolls dress, pinafore, and socks that are perfect for Frieda and her beautiful coloring. She is wearing her original brown shoes. πŸ™‚

image
Frieda brought with her the brown cord dress and a green dress too. (Ellen’s photo)

image
Underneath, Frieda wears the most lovely hand crocheted underwear. (Ellen’s photo)

image
A close up photo of the beautiful Ruthsdolls outfit. ❀

image
As a welcoming gift, I gave Frieda a Sashapotamus surprise!

image
She is so excited and looks inside her bag. πŸ™‚

image
“What is it Mommy?” Β Look inside the tissue paper my dear Frieda. ❀

image
“Oh my Mommy! New shoes and they match my dress!” “Oh thank you Mommy!” Β You are very welcome my dear one. ❀

image
Frieda put her new shoes on and they are just the right size. Β “Oh Mommy, I love them! ❀

image
“Mommy, I feel so pretty!” Β You are very pretty my sweet Frieda. ❀

image
So dear Frieda has been lovingly restored and beautifully redressed to begin her new life. πŸ™‚

image
Hello Frieda. πŸ™‚
